‘My vision is a dream of creating timeless, African inspired contemporary designs, of crafting world class accessories, of sourcing from throughout the continent and building bridges and collaborations and ultimately bulding A truly and uniquely African Luxury brand. My inspiration remains the cultural kaleidoscope, diverse landscapes and rich heritage of Africa.’

 

African Mosaique was created by Anna Getaneh, its Managing and Creative Director.

Anna is a fashion-cultural enthusiast, humanitarian, and an acclaimed former international model. From her base in Paris and New York City , her modeling career spanned close to 10 years, working with renowned designers such as Christian Lacroix, Ungaro, Yves St. Laurent, Ralph Lauren, Escada, and Donna Karan.

She has featured in numerous fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and Amina, and has hosted various events, such as the Soul Train music show, the BBC documentary "African Footsteps" , the KORA All Africa Music Awards and Miss Malaika Beauty Pageant in South Africa.

Anna's hallmark is her passion about children and development. She has done global advocacy work for UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, on African themes. Notably, she has spearheaded the establishment of The Ethiopian Children's Fund www.ethiopianchildrensfund.org.

Origin

The story of African Mosaique is one of celebration, imagination and continental integration. It is about the conception of a collective culture, casting a spotlight on African talent and inspiration, and developing and showcasing world class African creations.

African Mosaique is a Johannesburg-based international enterprise that designs, manufactures and promotes high-end African Inspired clothing and accessories. It does this while celebrating African fashion, art and culture.

Since the launch of the African Mosaique label in 2004, a new collection is developed seasonally by Creative Director Anna Getaneh: and continues its collaborations with other designers to create a fushion of contemporary African inspired ready-to-wear, accessories and textiles.

African Mosaique is now focusing on providing niche retail outlets for established and aspiring African designers.

Beyond fashion

African Mosaique was inspired by the relatively week presence of direct African participation in leading fashion platforms in Europe and North Africa. Since its inseption in 1995 African Mosaique has contributed to international awareness and appreciation of the rich and diverse cultures of Africa through art and Fashion. African Mosaique’s products are African in origin in terms of creation, production talent and stories. It has a rich history of providing platforms for over a decade to emerging and established designers. The foundation arm of African Mosaique continues to provide a platform for established and emerging designers from Africa and the Diaspora to come together and showcase their collections.

African Mosaique was also motivated by the cause of sustainability and the young in Africa. Financial proceeds from New York Fashion events have benefitted Fashion Outreach, an American charitable organization of fashion industry professionals facilitating and encouraging minority participation in the US fashion industry.

Proceeds are also supporting ECF Childrens’s Fund (The Ethiopian Children’s Fund), a multi-sectoral development programme for poor children, mostly orphans, in rural Ethiopia. www.ethiopianchildrensfund.org.
